Vor 50 Jahren, am 25. Juni 1968, hielt Garrett Hardin, Professor für Humanökologie, seinen berühmten Vortrag "The tragedy of the Commons", der dann im Dezember 1968 in der Zeitschrift Science als Essay veröffentlicht wurde.
Hardin exemplifiziert für Gesellschaft, Umwelt und Natur den final fatalen Lauf der Bevölkerungszunahme und kommt zum Schluss: "The population problem has no technical solution; it requires a fundamental extension in morality."
